Questions to ask - Ideas to consider Business Aviation - Today, the challenge that faces most everyone in business is, “How can I see the people I need to see, and reach the places I need to reach, in the fastest, most efficient way possible?” With the uncertainties of airline service being what they are, many organizations are seriously rethinking their reliance on scheduled commercial flights. Many are looking for more security, more flexibility, more comfort, and a more responsive alternative. And that’s where business aviation comes in. Perhaps you’ve said to yourself, ”I know of some companies and individuals who have profited from using business aircraft, but I’m not so sure that we’re ready to take that step.” Fair enough. No one can answer that but you. But, if you‘ll honestly ask and consider the following questions, we think that you’ll see more clearly what your next move should be. Question 1 Is personal face-to-face contact with your customers important to your success? Even in an age of e-mail, cell phones, data links and teleconferencing, for most successful companies and individuals, there is still no substitute for simply “being there.” Key people often have a physical presence and a rapport with customers that give them a vital edge, which can’t otherwise be gained or duplicated electronically. Question 2 Are you concerned about airline security, or the lack of privacy on an airliner? In a business aircraft, you travel only with those people with whom you choose to travel. So, you can work on a laptop or a set of spreadsheets without worrying about curious strangers peeking over your shoulder. Fact is, it’s not unusual to find that some of your most productive time is spent in the air, meeting with business associates, clients and customers in the quiet comfort and privacy of your own executive cabin. Question 3 Would key personnel be more productive if they could set their own travel schedules, rather than depending upon steadily declining airline service? Study after study proves that companies operating business aircraft hold a powerful age in productivity over nonusers. Of the 24 industries addressed in the latest Standard & Poor ‘s 500, there’s not a single market in which non operators outperformed operators in total market value, revenues and net income. Similarly, a majority of the companies in Canada, which make up Standard & Poor’s TSE 60 index are business aircraft operators. Question 4 Do you miss business opportunities because of poor connecting airline flights? Business aircraft are not limited to locations where the airlines find it is profitable to fly. In fact, a lot of business is conducted away from major hub cities, and business aircraft operators are the first to tap into these opportunities. What ‘s more, they’re not saddled with the problems that plague so many airline travelers - inconvenient routings, schedule changes, delays and cancellations, over bookings, missed connections, lost luggage, and so on. A business aircraft can use all the same airports that the airlines use, plus literally thousands more that the airlines don’t. In fact, commercial flights serve only about 12% of the airports that a business aircraft can reach. You can choose from nearly 6,000 more airports in Canada and the U.S. alone - often landing closer to your actual destination, while avoiding the traffic, congestion and parking problems often found at busy major airline terminals. Question 5 Would the use of business aircraft provide you with greater flexibility to respond to competitive opportunities or urgent situations? Travelers who use business aircraft are free to set their own agendas. They call the shots. They don’t have to wait for the next flight out. Imagine the freedom of having an aircraft on call to fly wherever you want, whenever you’re ready to go. If you can gain an edge from quick response to fast- breaking opportunities or instant follow-up to customer needs, you can probably benefit from the go-anytime flexibility provided by business aviation. Question 6 Would the use of business aircraft allow your employees to spend more time with their families? Human resources is more than a buzzword. It’s the key to the new economy. Good people truly are a company ‘s most important asset. Companies that can compete for the best people - and give them the tools, which can make them the most productive - will ultimately succeed over those that cannot. A business aircraft gives you a wider range of mobility options. It can often reduce the typical three – day trip to one or two days. And it easily eliminates many hotel and meal expenses by turning overnight stays into out - and - back day trips. By enabling key people to do more, while spending fewer nights away from their families, an aircraft simultaneously enhances both productivity and morale. Question 7 Would your clients feel more highly regarded if you could transport them to and from locations on a comfortable aircraft at their convenience? Of course they would. Who wouldn’t find it appealing to be picked up in a business aircraft by someone with whom they’re doing business? Or someone with whom they’re considering doing business? There’s a tangible psychological edge for the company that attends to its clients with this kind of first-class treatment. Moreover, the aircraft offers a way to get those clients to your facility or work site by the quickest, most comfortable means imaginable. What have you learned? If you found yourself answering “yes” to even a few of these questions, perhaps it’s time to review or rethink the issue of utilizing business aircraft. Outright purchase of an aircraft is just one option and, of course, it isn’t right for everyone. But there are many, many other innovative concepts that can enable you to benefit from the inherent advantages of a business aircraft. Let there be no mistake, if your employees travel, you are already operating in the world of corporate aviation. However, like any other important business decision, determining whether and how to acquire assets that enable you to control your own business travel requires you know all your options.
